Meet Shelia

Celebrating 41 years in the industry

The proud founder and owner of Head Designs Salon for 36 years.  Award winning veteran Cosmetologist, Colorist, Haircutter, Herbalist, and Texture specialist.

Active in the community

Sheila has also utilized her salon to offer entrepreneur incubation for local cosmetology graduates that aspire to own their own salon.

She continues to fill her shelves with local homemade products, made in the homes of aspiring business owners. 

Sheila hosts an event called “Garden of Information” which focuses on health and wellness education for and by the community featuring local yoga and Zumba instructors, artists, authors and alternative health specialists.

Entrepreneurship​​

Sheila has used her business to contribute to health, education, entrepreneurship and the advancement of the community where Head Designs Salons resides.

Sheila has contributed  many years to the Women’s Cancer Resource Center.  Where her friends and clients continue to support the center’s yearly Swim-A-Mile for a Cure fundraiser. 

History

In the 90’s Head Designs Salon led the way with ongoing HIV awareness and education and was featured in an Oakland Tribune article about the salon serving as a vehicle for a community call to action.

In 1996, Head Designs took that enthusiasm to East Africa, teaching and training at the Kenya School of Hairdressing in Nairobi. Sheila worked closely with a graduating student named Anna who later opened her own salon

Awards

Head Designs Salon won the 2012-2013 “Mike McPherson Pillar” Oakland Indie Award and became the 1st honoree of the 2013 Madame C.J. Waker Hair Stylist of the Year award.
