I recently ordered Sheila's lubricating styling foam from her website and had it mailed to me. Since I don't live in Oakland anymore it was the most convenient way to get the product that works the best for my curls! For the last 12 years, I have spent so much money trying to find the right stylist to cut my curly hair. Every place claimed to have the curly hair expertise, but I usually felt the cut was just so-so. That is the complete opposite of my experience at Head Designs. Sheila took the time to listen to my wants and looked over all the reference photos I brought. I went from chin length wimpy curls that loved to frizz at the hint of rain to the CUTEST pixie shag. I was never blessed with thick hair. To my dismay, part of my aging process has been thinning hair that is coarser and more fragile. An experienced stylist understands the different hair textures between younger and older clients because as people age, their hair naturally changes in texture, density, and condition, requiring different styling techniques and product choices to achieve the best results. Sheila understood my concerns and cut my hair in such a way that the thinner areas are no longer noticeable. Now all I need to do is wash it 1-2x/week and use a styling gel. On the do nothing days, I wet down any areas that are flattened or have cowlicks, fluff up with my hands and I'm done. I was Sheila's lone customer that afternoon so she was able to take care of me with zero distractions. She has a calm demeanor and a gentle touch. What I appreciate the most is how Sheila really paid attention and listened to me. There is street parking and a lot behind the shop. And after leaving with such a good haircut, I treated myself to a pastry from the bakery next door. Looking forward to my next cut. Thank you, Sheila!!

During wedding planning I saw only a few East Bay salons even offering curly bridal packages and then they were all booked up -- I was STRESSED! But then I found Sheila. I scheduled a consultation so she could go over the inspiration photos I had and then get familiar with my hair to see what was possible. She opened up early for me on wedding day and did an amazing job on an updo that stayed put all night and then some. I even just went back for a haircut recently because she was so great and had much better prices than other curly salons around. Run don't walk to Shelia for your hair cuts and bridal styles!

Sheila honestly gave me my favorite haircut I’ve ever had. I’m so excited to have been recommended to her! I had tears in my eyes by the end of the experience. What a gift she is!! It was like hair magic. I called her “Sheila The (good) Hair Witch” to a friend after. I felt so cared for, she’s so talented and her experience and love for her work really shines through. Plus those homemade hair teas are unreal! My curls have truly never felt better. I’m real excited to go back (and I’ve never looked forward to haircuts)! Thank you Sheila!
